Spalding County is located in the west-central part of Georgia and encompasses 201 square miles. Bordered by Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Butts, Lamar, Pike, and Meriwether counties, Spalding County lies 40 miles south of downtown Atlanta and 55 miles northwest of Macon. Spalding County is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Spalding County Manager

Spalding County is governed by five elected Commissioners and an appointed County Manager who oversees the day-to-day operations of the County advises the Board, and implements Commission policies. The County Manager serves as the Chief Executive of the County and provides support to ensure that all ordinances, resolutions, projects, initiatives, goals, and objectives of the Board of County Commissioners are properly coordinated and executed.

Steve Ledbetter, Spalding County’s Manager, is responsible for leading an organization of approximately 550 employees and a budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 of $95.1 million dollars. Dr. Ledbetter is responsible for the professional management of all programs and activities under the Board of County Commissioners. In addition, he is responsible for overseeing the County’s Economic & Community Development Services, Human Resources, and Information Services Departments. Additionally, Dr. Ledbetter serves as liaison between the Board of County Commissioners and several working committees.

Deputy County Manager of Administration

Mrs. Erica Dye began her career with Spalding County as Director of Administration and Finance in early 2023. In August 2024, Mrs. Dye was named Deputy County Manager for Administration and brings a wealth of experience from her prior role with the Georgia Lottery Commission to her position in Spalding County.  

The duties of the Deputy County Managers include assisting in developing and managing operating and capital budgets, proposing policy recommendations to the County Board, suggesting new management approaches and strategies, developing more effective ways of delivering county services, and contributing to the economic development process and the County Manager’s Office support staff.
